The Importance of Commuter Benefits Program Participation

By June 19, 2017January 13th, 2022No Comments

Pre-Tax Commuter Benefits can save both employers and employees some serious cash. But, how can you as an employer get the most out of your program? The answer is simple: Increase Commuter Benefits program participation.

Pre-Tax Commuter Benefits are a great perk that helps employees save on their commuting expenses, while saving employers on payroll taxes. They are truly a win-win.

But, at the end of the day, your Commuter Benefits program is only as good as its participation. The more employees you have taking advantage of the program, the more your company saves on payroll taxes. It’s that simple.

So, how can you as an employer leverage this profound information and increase Commuter Benefits program participation for your company?

Education is key!

Your employees need to:

A. Know that you have a pre-tax Commuter Benefits program in place
B. Learn how participating in the program will benefit them financially (i.e. save them up to 40% on their commuting expenses)
C. Understand how to sign up for the program.

So, how can all you employers out there educate employees about Commuter Benefits?

Here are some of the awareness techniques we’ve found to be successful:

Email Campaigns – Send out a series of engagement emails about the program.

Signage – Hang fliers around the office or posters in the breakroom.

Digital Displays – Post information about the program on office TV/computer monitors/screens or via intranet homepages.

Newsletters – Create a special section in the company newsletter promoting the program.

Orientation/Onboarding – Introduce all new employees to the program and answer any questions they may have during the onboarding process.

Tried any of the techniques above or know of one we might have missed? We’d love to hear all about it!
