Need a way to make your commute a little more bearable? Check out the game, Dots.

Dots is a game you can get from the iOS or Google Play stores. It’s free, fun, and apparently addicting. And, perhaps one of the coolest aspects of Dots is that you can play without using data or connecting to Wi-Fi, which makes it the perfect distraction for subway commuters.

According to Wired.com, “Dots is an addictive time-waster that’ll make your 45-minute commute fly by.” And, since we’re in the business of commuting, Dots sounds perfect to us. Let’s explore it a little more, shall we?

Dots is essentially a game of grids where…you guessed it…connect the dots. According to Quartz, “it’s a delightful mix of Tetris, Connect Four, and a Rubik’s Cube.” I don’t know about you, but they had me at Tetris.

There are 4 different types of challenges you can play in Dots: Timed, # of Moves, Challenges, and Endless. For the Timed mode, players have 60 seconds to connect dots of the same color in a straight line. The more dots you are able to connect during that 60-second timeframe, the more points you earn. And, players that are able to connect dots into squares earn even more points.

The # of Moves mode gives you a certain amount of moves, and you have to see how many dots you can connect within that given number. Obviously, the more dots you connect, the higher you score. Challenge mode pairs you up with other users for a little competition action. However, in order to use the Challenges mode, you need to be connected to Wi-Fi or use cellular data because they connect you with competitors through “Facebook or email”. And, lastly, the Endless mode costs an extra $1.99 and allows you to play without any time or move restrictions.

Have problems seeing color? No worries! Dots has a color blind mode that adds shapes to the colored dots, so users that have issues seeing certain colors can play, too.

Anyone out there in Commuter Land play Dots? Or, want to share your go-to app while commuting? We’d love to hear from you.

Happy Commuting!
